Privacy Policy
Effective October 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy (the "Policy") describes how personal information is collected, used, disclosed and otherwise processed in connection with:
- the Parallax software for macOS, including its updates and its game and application integrations (the "Software");
- the website located at parallaxwindow.com (the "Website").
Together, the Software and the Website are the "Services". This Policy forms part of the End User License Agreement and Terms of Use (the "Terms"). Capitalized terms not defined in this Policy have the meanings given in the Terms.
Key Points.
- Camera images, facial data and screen content are processed exclusively on your device. They are never stored or transmitted.
- The Software contains no analytics, advertising or tracking technology. It connects to the internet only to verify licenses and to obtain updates.
- The Website sets no cookies and does not track visitors from one visit to the next.
- Personal information is not sold, is not shared for advertising, and is never used to identify any person by their face.
This summary is provided for convenience only; the full Policy governs.
1. Scope and Controller
The controller of personal information processed through the Services is the provider of Parallax (the "Provider"). Inquiries concerning this Policy, and requests to exercise any of the rights described in Section 12, may be directed to support@parallaxwindow.com. Where another company processes personal information as an independent controller, this Policy identifies it.
2. Information Processed Solely on Your Device
2.1 Camera Data and Facial Geometry
The Software uses your device's camera to estimate the position of your head relative to the display. A face-tracking model running on your device locates points on your face in each camera frame and reduces them to a head position: horizontal offset, vertical offset and distance from the screen.
- Local processing. Camera frames and facial points are processed in volatile memory on your device as they are received. They are never written to persistent storage, never transmitted off the device, and never received by, disclosed to or accessible to the Provider or any third party. A camera preview and the computed head position pass between components of the Software over the device's local loopback interface. That interface does not leave the device.
- No identification. The Software does not perform facial recognition. It does not create facial templates, faceprints or any other representation capable of identifying an individual. Facial points are used solely to compute head position.
- Retention and destruction. Each camera frame, and the facial points derived from it, is discarded as soon as the corresponding head position has been computed, ordinarily within a fraction of a second. No such data survives the stopping of the camera or the termination of the Software. Because no such data is retained, none is sold, leased, traded, disclosed or otherwise used for profit.
- Permission. The camera operates only after you have granted macOS camera permission. You may revoke that permission at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
The camera demonstration on the Website operates in the same manner within your browser, as described in Section 5.4.
2.2 Screen Content
The Software captures the windows displayed on your screen in order to render them in three dimensions, and it estimates depth for images and video displayed on screen. All such processing occurs in memory on your device. Screen content and depth estimates are neither retained nor transmitted. Screen capture begins only after you have granted macOS Screen Recording permission, which you may revoke at any time. Files you elect to create, such as three-dimensional videos or screenshots, are saved solely to locations you designate and are not transmitted.
2.3 Integrations
The integrations for Geometry Dash, Minecraft and Blender receive only head-position data. That data comes from the Software on the same device, over the local loopback interface. The integrations transmit no information to the Provider. The underlying games and applications, and any third-party mod loaders, are operated by their respective owners and are governed by their owners' privacy policies.
2.4 Locally Stored Data
The Software stores the following in its preferences on your device:
- its settings;
- your license key;
- a cryptographically signed activation token;
- the date of the most recent license verification.
This data is removed when the Software's preferences are deleted or when "Deactivate License on This Mac…" is selected.
The Software also keeps working files on your device, in ~/Library/Application Support/Parallax and ~/Library/Logs/Parallax:
- the on-screen positions of your windows, so that they can be restored if the Software quits unexpectedly;
- a log of the Software's own recoveries from such events;
- depth data computed for video files you select, so that it need not be computed again.
These files contain no camera data, facial data or images of your screen. They are never transmitted, and you may delete them at any time.
2.5 Input Events
To let you use the windows it displays, the Software observes your mouse clicks and drags as they occur, so that it can place the corresponding window beneath the pointer before the click reaches it. It does not read or record what you type. To pause background work while you are active, it checks only how long ago the most recent mouse or keyboard input occurred. Input events are handled in memory as they occur and are not recorded, stored or transmitted.
3. Information Collected Through the Software
3.1 License Activation and Verification
The Software transmits your license key and a machine identifier to the license server at license.parallaxwindow.com. It does so upon activation, upon deactivation, and periodically (approximately weekly) to verify the license. The machine identifier is a one-way SHA-256 hash of your device's hardware identifier. It cannot be reversed to reveal the underlying identifier and serves solely to distinguish one licensed device from another.
- The license server stores a hash of the license key, the machine identifier and the activation identifier issued by Lemon Squeezy. This enables reinstallation on the same device without consuming an additional activation. No name, email address or other contact information is stored on the license server.
- The license server forwards the license key and machine identifier to Lemon Squeezy, which issues and administers license keys (see Section 4).
- As with any internet request, each request discloses your IP address. The license server is operated on Cloudflare infrastructure, which processes such requests to deliver and secure the service.
3.2 Software Updates
The Software checks dl.parallaxwindow.com for updates approximately once daily, and downloads available updates from that address. These requests disclose your IP address and the Software's name and version. They do not include a system profile or any information about your use of the Software.
3.3 Information Not Collected
The Software contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or third-party tracking technology. It does not collect or transmit camera images, screen content, files, keystrokes, browsing activity or usage data.
4. Purchases and Payment
Licenses are sold by Lemon Squeezy (Link, LLC, formerly Lemon Squeezy LLC), the merchant of record, which processes payments through Stripe. In completing a purchase, Lemon Squeezy collects the following, which it uses to process payment, calculate and remit taxes, prevent fraud and deliver your license key:
- your name and email address;
- your billing country and address;
- your payment details;
- your IP address.
Lemon Squeezy processes this information as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. The Provider receives the order information that Lemon Squeezy makes available to sellers, such as your name, email address, country, product and order date. The Provider never receives full payment card numbers. Where a purchase originates from the Website, the order also carries the random visit identifier described in Section 5.2. This allows the sale to be attributed to the version of the Website from which it originated.
5. Information Collected Through the Website
5.1 Hosting and Security
The Website, the license server and Software downloads are delivered through Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes your IP address and standard request data, such as browser type and the resource requested, in order to deliver the Website and protect it against abuse, and it maintains short-lived logs. The Website's fonts and its own code are served from parallaxwindow.com, and no fonts or code libraries are loaded from Google or from any other font or code provider. Where analytics are enabled, the analytics code described in Section 5.2 is delivered by PostHog. When sales are open, the checkout code described in Section 5.5 is delivered by Lemon Squeezy. Those requests disclose your IP address and standard request data to those providers.
5.2 Analytics
The Website uses PostHog (PostHog, Inc.; data hosted in the European Union) to measure how the Website is used. Measured events include page views, clicks, the applications opened in the demonstration, whether the camera demonstration is started, and whether checkout is reached and completed.
- Events are associated only with a random identifier that is held in browser memory for the duration of a single page visit. No cookies, local storage or similar technologies are used, and visits are not linked to one another.
- If a visit ends in a purchase, that visit's random identifier is stored with the order (Section 4). It is used only to attribute the sale to the version of the Website the visit saw, and not to review any individual's activity.
- PostHog receives your IP address and may derive an approximate location, such as country, from it. Analytics data is not used to identify individuals or to build profiles, and session recording is disabled.
- Analytics may be used to compare alternative versions of the Website.
5.3 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Where your browser transmits a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, the Website does not load its analytics code. No third party collects information about your activity across other websites through the Website.
5.4 Camera Demonstration
The "Use your camera" demonstration runs entirely within your browser, and only after your browser has requested and obtained your permission. Camera frames and facial points are processed in memory as described in Section 2.1, and are neither stored nor transmitted off your device. When the demonstration starts, your browser downloads the face-tracking code from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) and the face-tracking model from Google (storage.googleapis.com). Those downloads disclose your IP address to those providers, as any web request does. No camera data is transmitted to them.
5.5 Checkout and Cookies
The Website does not set cookies. When sales are open, the Website loads Lemon Squeezy's checkout script from app.lemonsqueezy.com, which discloses your IP address and standard request data to Lemon Squeezy. If you open the checkout, Lemon Squeezy and its payment providers may use cookies and similar technologies they require to process payments and prevent fraud. They do so under their own policies.
6. Correspondence
If you write to support@parallaxwindow.com, your email address and the contents of your message are processed solely to respond to you and to maintain a record of the correspondence. Such messages are delivered through Cloudflare Email Routing to an inbox hosted by Google (Gmail), which processes them under Google's own terms of service and privacy policy.
7. Disclosure of Personal Information
Personal information is disclosed only to the following service providers and other companies, for the purposes described in this Policy:
- Cloudflare, Inc. (United States): Website hosting and delivery, license server, Software downloads and email routing.
- Lemon Squeezy (Link, LLC) and Stripe (United States): sales, payment processing, taxes and license keys, as independent controllers.
- PostHog, Inc. (data hosted in the European Union): Website analytics.
- Google LLC (United States): hosting of the support inbox, under Google's own terms; and delivery of the face-tracking model used by the Website's camera demonstration.
- jsDelivr: delivery of the face-tracking code used by the Website's camera demonstration.
Personal information may also be disclosed where required by law or legal process. It may likewise be disclosed where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of the Provider, users or others. Finally, it may be transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of the Services, in which case this Policy will continue to govern information collected before the transfer.
8. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland)
- Performance of a contract: license activation and verification, Software updates, product delivery and responses to support requests.
- Legitimate interests: securing the Services, preventing fraud and unauthorized license use, and measuring and improving the Website through cookieless analytics. You may object to processing on this basis at any time (see Section 12).
- Compliance with legal obligations: tax and accounting records, maintained principally by Lemon Squeezy.
- Consent: access to the camera and screen. This is granted through macOS or your browser, may be withdrawn at any time, and results only in processing on your device.
9. International Data Transfers
The Provider is established in the United States, and certain service providers process personal information there. Where personal information is transferred from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the relevant service provider relies on one of the following:
- the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension and Swiss counterpart, where it participates;
- otherwise, the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or another lawful transfer mechanism.
10. Data Retention
- Camera data, facial points and screen content are not retained (Sections 2.1 and 2.2).
- Activation records are retained while the license is active. They are deleted upon deactivation of the relevant device or upon a verified deletion request.
- Website analytics data is retained for no longer than 24 months.
- Hosting and security logs are retained for a short period, ordinarily a matter of days.
- Correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to address the inquiry and any related follow-up.
- Order records are retained by Lemon Squeezy and the Provider for the periods required by tax, accounting and other applicable laws.
11. Data Security
Communications with the license server, the Website and the update service are encrypted in transit using HTTPS. License keys are stored on the license server only in hashed form, and activation tokens are cryptographically signed. Access to service-provider accounts is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed. In the event of a security incident affecting your personal information, notification will be provided as required by applicable law.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
- access your personal information and obtain a portable copy of it;
- rectify it;
- erase it;
- restrict or object to its processing;
- withdraw consent;
- opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising and profiling. None of these occurs.
Making a request. Requests may be submitted to support@parallaxwindow.com, from the email address associated with your purchase where applicable. Identity may be verified by matching the request against an email address or license key on record. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with your signed authorization. Requests will be answered within the period required by applicable law: ordinarily one month, or 45 days under U.S. state law.
Appeals and complaints. If a request is declined, you may appeal by replying with "Appeal" in the subject line. If the appeal is denied, you may contact the attorney general of your state. Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland may also lodge a complaint with their data protection authority.
Erasure of activation records deactivates the license on the affected devices. Requests concerning purchase records may also be directed to Lemon Squeezy. You will not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
13. Supplemental Notice for U.S. State Residents
During the preceding 12 months, the following categories of personal information have been collected, for the purposes described in this Policy:
- Identifiers: name, email address, IP address, license key, machine identifier and random visit identifier.
- Commercial information: order records.
- Internet or other electronic network activity: interactions with the Website.
- Approximate geolocation: derived from IP address.
No sensitive personal information is collected. In particular, biometric identifiers and biometric information are neither collected nor received: facial points exist only on your device, momentarily, and are never used to identify any individual. Personal information is not sold. It is not shared for cross-context behavioral advertising. It is not used for profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
14. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under the age of 13, or under such higher minimum age as applies in the child's jurisdiction. Personal information is not knowingly collected from such children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please write to support@parallaxwindow.com and it will be deleted.
15. Changes to This Policy
This Policy may be amended from time to time. The effective date above identifies the current version. Any change to the information the Software transmits from your device will also be disclosed in the Software's release notes before the change takes effect.
